How has Serv-U changed over the years?
We redesigned Serv-U from 2005 to 2008 to take full advantage of 64-bit operating systems, multithreading, modern web concepts, IPv6 and other technology. This allowed us to:
* Change from a Windows-only application to one supported on both Windows and Linux
* Switch our administrative interface from a local GUI application to a web-based interface that can be configured on any web browser or iPad
* Add secure protocols such as SFTP and FTPS
* Add web-based transfers and mobile optimization
* Continue to add 500 new features and bug fixes a year - far more than any other FTP server today

What is "secure" file transfer?
Secure file transfer refers to the ability of the product to support vendor-independent protocols such as FTP over SSL (FTPS, FTP using SSH (SFTP) and HTTP over SSL (HTTPS). All three of these protocols encrypt data in transit and all three are supported by Serv-U Gold and Serv-U Platinum.

What is "managed" file transfer?
"Managed file transfer" is a term coined by Gartner in the mid 2000's to describe mission-critical activities built on top of secure file transfer and automation technologies. Serv-U Platinum provides mission-critical services through high availability, a multi-tier "gateway" architecture that avoids data in the DMZ, event-driven automation, and the three most popular secure file transfer protocols (FTPS, SFTP, HTTPS).

Is Serv-U's web transfer interface really free?
Yes, you may have seen many of our competitors try to squeeze people by charging them to turn on a web transfer interface, or even charge individual users connecting to them separately. Serv-U avoids all this hassle and expense by including a free web transfer interface with every edition it ships, from Bronze through Platinum.
